Based on traditions and modern research, we have developed our own process for snus production. It fuses traditional methodologies with advanced technologies, for example allowing the tobacco to ferment over several days rather than a more cost-efficient fast track used by some competitors. The result is excellent and consistency quality in any variety, can and pouch from us.
Our process starts one year before we even begin production. At Swedish Smokeless we hand select our tobaccos from the best tobacco farms in the world – and we know them all. A full year of growing and regular monitoring of the crops needs to take place prior to us accepting any tobacco to our factory.
What we are looking for is the right plant variety with the right taste, low sugar and high nicotine. The tobacco we use is specially selected for snus production.
When a batch of nicotine products is received at the facility, it undergoes a thorough ocular and chemical inspection process. We check every single batch in our laboratory to ensure we have the ideal nicotine level and the lowest toxin levels. Our method is all about making the best products out of the best raw tobacco.
When ready, the tobacco is shipped and stored in our GMP-certified production plant in Enköping, Sweden, where it is dried to ensure the best conditions before being treated. In Sweden, the production of snus is classified as food and the standards enforced in production are some of the highest in the world.
Tobacco leaves come in various sizes and textures. They are sorted and organized, loaded onto the production line, then cut or ground depending on what the end-product is. It is mixed with food-grade salt and water before being fermented to achieve the softness and taste required.
We use state-of-the-art quality control, production and monitoring, implemented using custom-made machinery.
Tobacco is placed in custom containers and baked in special thermal conditions for a week, monitored the entire time. This produces the traditional taste and high quality. This process can be fast-forwarded to produce a result which is ok for some, but at Swedish Smokeless, we will not take shortcuts when the result is inferior.
After baking, the tobacco is blended using an array of flavors. From the more common mint, vanilla and different fruits and berries to exotic and unique tastes. Like using genuine single-malt whisky from Islay in the fermenting process to create an experience beyond anything you have ever tried before. We also only use the finest, strictly natural oils regardless of the costs.
Once our tobacco blends have been carefully crafted and infused with our signature flavors, they proceed to the final phase of production, where testing protocols are implemented to ensure quality targets are met.
We test pH levels, moisture content, visual appearance, and weight, each playing a key role in determining the overall quality and consistency of the final product.
After the tobacco is ready, it is packaged as loose snus or pouches. While loose snus is packaged into special metal cans by hand, the pouch process is lightning-fast and results in thousands of portions every minute.
The state-of-the art machinery packs the pouches in cans and seals them without any human intervention. Before being packed for shipment, each can is labeled specifically for the country it is being shipped to.
